Welcome to the Newport Township Fire Protection District's Official Website

Newport Township Fire Protection District is located in Lake County, Illinois, along the Wisconsin border, approximately midway between Chicago and Milwaukee. Firefighters protect an area of 31.8 square miles within Newport Township and provide mutual aid assistance to fire departments throughout northeast Illinois and southwest Wisconsin through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS). Villages and communities served by the Fire District include a portion of Beach Park, Old Mill Creek, Rosecrans, Russell and Wadsworth. Newport Fire responds to fire incidents, medical emergencies, vehicle crashes, hazardous material releases, water rescues and technical rescue emergencies.

Firefighters respond to emergencies from two stations located east and west of the Canadian Pacific Railroad, Interstate 94, Highway 41 corridor. Station 1 was originally built by volunteer firefighters in 1946 and is located at 39010 N. Caroline Avenue in downtown Wadsworth, IL. Station 2, located at 43320 N. Highway 41 (Old Highway 41 north of Russell Road), is a leased facility and was occupied by the Fire District in 2013.

Fire stations are staffed 24/7 by professional on-duty firefighter/paramedics and firefighter/emergency medical technicians. Station 1 is staffed with three personnel while Station 2 is staffed by two. Staffing is provided by a combination of full-time sworn firefighters (2), contract full-time firefighters (7) and paid-on-premise (part-time) firefighters (35). All personnel are certified through the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Newport Township Fire Protection District is governed by a three-member Board of Trustees that are appointed to three-year terms by the Newport Township Board. Trustees hold regularly scheduled meetings on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the meeting room at Fire Station 1. Meetings are open to the public and are encouraged to attend.
